40 authors, two books, one centre

40 authors, two books, one centre.

When Toni Morrison said “If there’s a book you really want to read but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it”, she couldn’t have imagined that it would spur over 40 people attending  Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre to put pen to paper.  Well, that’s just what happened and on Tuesday 27th May, James Harold City Arts Officer, launched  two publications, “Reflections by the River”, an anthology of writings from the Creative Writing group , and “Madeira Island Musings” a collection of stories from the intergenerational programme.  He praised the writers’ work saying that he found their work “entrancing” with a “fantastic spark in the writing”.
The intergenerational programme now in its fourth year is collaboration between the transition year students in Galway Community College and older adults.  Maria Moore transition year co-ordinator said today that “participation in Young Hearts has been of tremendous benefit for both Transition Years and adult members of our group. Working together they have shared experiences, stories and fun. They have come to a realisation that despite vast differences in age, they have much in common”.
John McGinty facilitator with the Creative writers group encourages everyone with an interest in writing when he said that, “The sight of their writing in print should lift the spirits of those who never felt they might see such a day.  The riches of their lives’ experiences is a source of riches that can enrich our lives and we hope that they will go on to bigger and better things”

Both books include reflections, poems, memories, feelings and reactions to life and to nature.    If you would like to get a copy of either book please contact CroI na Gaillimhe on 091 895203 or call into 1 Mill St., located up from the Garda station.  The books cost €4 each.
