 LIVING SCENES Forum Theatre Drama

The scene is set-youngsters kick a ball into an elderly ladies’ garden, again. She has had enough, she bursts the ball…what happens next?... You decide!
That’s the conumdrum set by the Living Scenes participants from Galway Community College and older adults from Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre,  in their Forum Theatre drama. Under the guidance of Marie and Ade from ALâ and Maria Moore, Coordinator of Living Scenes from GCC,  the 26 Transition years from GCC and “recycled teenagers”  have devised two short dramas through story-telling, discussion and role play. This is theatre with a twist!

The performers, young and young at heart, re-enact a story which demonstrates some aspect of inequality or oppression which has taken place in place in real life.
The audience are offered the opportunity to stop the performances and to step into a role to offer an alternative point of view. They do this by taking on the parts of a character and replaying the scene again. In this way they take control of the situation and effect positive change.

The intergenerational focus of the Living Scenes programme seeks to create a climate in which the participants will develop interpersonal skills, self-realisation, character building skills and cross-generational awareness and respect.
The participants from Living Scenes meet every week in Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre. The centre provides an intergenerational place of welcome.  Loretta Needham, Manager of the centre is delighted to host this exciting programme and is delighted with the continuing support of the St. Vincent de Paul, O Connell Trust. Mr. Brian Melia, principal of Galway Community college says that he was delighted with the opportunity to have the programme in the school. “The students are gaining  invaluable experience in engaging in a meaningful way with a community group like Croí na Gaillimhe,  St Vincent de Paul.”
