"Things To Live By" Exhibition

A beautiful exhibition "Things To Live By" is currently taking place at Galway City Museum at the Spanish Arch, Galway from 11th to the 15th of December.

This exhibition is a collaborative project between The Forge Clay Studio and members of  The Croí na Gaillimhe Social Club, based on the idea of shared memories. The work produced is a fantastic testament to both groups with some truly stunning pieces on show from oil paintings, clay models, stained glass and ceramic pieces to collages.

The opening reception took place on Wednesday, the 12th of December and Croí na Gaillimhe were delighted to be invited to attend the event, where guest speakers included Arts Council Officer, James Harold and members of The Forge Project and Croí na Gaillimhe manager Loretta Needham also said a few words about the project.
It was a lovely afternoon with some wonderful musicians opening proceedings followed by refreshments provided by the 'The Kitchen' Cafe at the Museum. The exhibition itself runs until Saturday the 15th of December and all are very welcome.

A big thank you to everyone who nominated projects for the STAR Awards 2013

We received a total of 115 projects entered in five categories. The nominations are now winging their way to the STAR Awards Judging Panel! The Judging Panel will begin the difficult task of shortlisting all the nominations. The shortlist will then be available in January and the judges will meet with all shortlisted projects to decide on the winner in each category. It's going to be a difficult choice for them as the nominations are all fantastic!

Please vote for us in The Better Together Video Competition!

Better Together is a nationwide campaign which aims to make Ireland a better place to live, by building support for charities, clubs and associations across the country.
The first Better Together Campaign was launched in 2010 by The Wheel, a support and representative body for the Irish Community and Voluntary sector.

This year, Croí na Gaillimhe have entered the competition with a wonderful two minute video, depicting an image of everything the centre is about-hard to convey in such a short time frame but thanks to Pat and Aenghus, our lovely videographers, we've managed to the capture the magic and all the heart felt care and attention that Croí na Gaillimhe provides to the disadvantaged in our community on a daily basis.
So whether it's for Art Classes, Computers for Beginners, Knitting,Movement and Relaxation, Creative Writing, Parent and Baby Groups, Conversational English for Migrants (Failte Isteach) or our Dinner/Social Club-Croí na Gaillimhe is a place where you'll always find a friendly face or a listening ear.
Our primary focus is on the integration of all sectors of the community in an atmosphere of inclusiveness, acceptance and affirmation.

Funding is vital to the sustainability of our centre here, as it is for all voluntary organisations at present and this is why it's really important that you please vote for us in the Better Together Video Awards 2012.

We need your votes!

Please check out our video here and click on the link attached.

You can vote once every day until the 19th of November & we'd really love if you helped us along the way..Thank you x

Upcoming Fundraising Events at Croí na Gaillimhe.

We've been busy here at Croí na Gaillimhe planning some exciting  new fundraising events!

First off, we thought that  hosting a monthly movie night here at CNG would be a nice little way to ease into those cold winter months; the first one taking place on Wednesday the 26th of September from 7-9pm.
The theme is 'Classics' and we'll be showing some great old time films that young and old alike will enjoy in the cosy surroundings of our idyllic centre.
As it is a fundraising event, with our volunteers kindly offering up their time to help run the event -we  request an entry fee of €5 but we'll provide the film, popcorn and drinks so all you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the show!
(Do let us know if there's a particular film you'd like to see shown and we'll do our utmost to try and  cater to all tastes.)

Secondly, we are extremely excited to announce that we'll be holding a 'Masquerade Ball' in association with another important charity, Console in the Salthill Hotel on the 28th of October.
This promises to be a fantastic night with a four course meal, full live band and DJ and lots of great prizes to be won on the night.
Tickets are priced at €50 and can be purchased here at the centre. Call us on (091) 895203 for more details or pop over to our facebook page where we'll also be posting regular updates and info on this event.
As always, we appreciate your support!

We will be posting more info about this event on the blog and on our facebook page in the very near future.

If you are interested in hearing more about either of these fabulous fundraising events,
please call us on (091) 895203 and we'll happily give you all the details you need!

'Fáilte Isteach’ Programme to Begin Shortly

'Fáilte Isteach’ is an unique community based programme developed by Third Age which aims to encourage (older) volunteers to welcome new migrants to the community through conversational English classes. The concept behind the programme is to break down the barriers that may exist among community members by promoting integration and the passing on both skills and knowledge from different cultures.

We are planning to run the 'Fáilte Isteach’ programme at Croí na Gaillimhe shortly and are currently recruiting volunteers.

If you are :
  • Open to meeting new people and curious about the world around you?
  • Patient, generous with your time, reliable and committed to helping others?
Then Fáilte Isteach might be of interest to you!

Previously volunteers have discovered that there have been huge benefits to participating in the programme. Not just by making great friends, not also through having their skills and expertise are being recognized and valued and knowing that they are helping to help build a better, stronger and more inclusive society.

If you would like more information then please contact either Loretta or Loyola on 091 - 895203 or alternatively by e-mailing lorettaneedham@gmail.com
