Our 'Official' timetable will be launched shortly, but in the meantime, the preview below will give you a taste of the type of classes and clubs we will have in September.   

There is lots to choose from whether you are interested in learning how to send emails, to dance to maybe just to meet and chat, Croí na Gaillimhe is the place for you!!

Monday:

Movement & Relaxation: 10.30am – 12pm 
Dinner for Older People: 1pm Price: €6    Every Monday
Social Club: 2pm Activities include card / board games, movies, boccia, bingo  Every Monday
Computers for Beginners: 7pm      Starts 12th September

Tuesday:       
Beginners Drawing: 11am – 1pm   
Living Scenes - ‘Intergenerational Project with NUI Galway’:  10.30am – 1pm
Knitting Club: 2.30pm – 4pm  Starts 20th September

Wednesday:
Beginner Computers: 10.30am – 12.30pm   Starts 14th September
Painting:  10.00am – 11. 30am

Social Club for Men:  7.30pm Social activities include watching soccer matches, card games

New Painting Tutor Volunteer Required!!

Croí na Gaillimheis looking for a new volunteer to join our team in the capacity of 'Painting Class Tutor'. The volunteer would teach a Beginners Painting Class to a group of (approx.) 8 older people. The course will run for eight weeks with each class lasting 2 hours. 


A knowledge of painting is essential and some previous teaching experience is desirable although not essential. An informal interview and Garda vetting are part of our screening process.

Painting Tutors

Tasks: Encourage and help older people to learn the skill of painting. The group will consist of approx 8 older people and take place for 2 hours one day a week for 8 weeks.
Experience Required: Knowledge of art and painting is necessary.
Skills/ Qualities Needed: Experience of teaching painting and working with older people is desirable but not essential.
Training and Support Provided: Yes
Time Required: We would like to run a class once a week (2 hours). The class would last for 8 weeks. The time and date are open to discussion. The class would be aimed at beginners.
Number of Volunteers Needed: 1
Location of Volunteering: Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre, 1 Mill Street
Screening: Garda Vetting; Informal Interviews; References

Chiropody Clinic

Just a quick reminder for all Croí na Gaillimhe clients that the FREE monthly 'Chiropody Clinic' will take place (tomorrow) Tuesday 23rd August from 9.30am to 12pm at the COPE Galway Day Centre on the Seamus Quirke Road. No appointment necessary.

Training for Transformation (TFT) 2011 - 2012

Training for Transformation (TFT) was introduced into Ireland in the 1980s. The programme is essentially about enabling people to work effectively together on issues relevant to their local community. Elements of the training include: Personal development and trust building
  • Group work skills
  • Skills in understanding and working with people in the community
  • Organisational development skills
The programme has been used widely in Ireland for community development purposes. It works with both professional people and volunteers.

Course details: 
The Training for Transformation course itself will be commencing in Galway on the following dates: October 14th and 15th, November 11th and 12th, December 2nd and 3rd, January 13th and 14th, February 10th and 11th and March 9th and 10th. Friday evening from 7.30pm to 10.00pm and Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.

Who Should Attend: 
Training for Transformation is open to all people and is aimed in particular volunteers, Sport organisations, Church groups, Family Resource Centres, Youth workers, refugees and Community leaders.

How to Register: 
Two information / registration sessions will be held onTuesday 6th of September at 11.00a.m. in the morning and another session at 7.00p.m in the evening. For more information, please contact 091 895203.







Course Fees:
The cost of course is €150 for employed and this includes the booking fee of €100. The cost for unemployed / refugees people has to be decided
The closing date for applications is the 30th September 2011.

Reminder: August Tea Dance Coming Up!!

Don't forget our monthly Tea Dance is taking place lately this week, on Friday 5th August from 2pm - 4pm. As always ths 'Tea Dance' is a free event and is be plenty of lively music courtesy of our 'house' musicians John, Eamonn, Bill and Michael.

As always there will be lots of delicious cakes and tea and coffee to ensure that you cna keep dancing all afternoon long! Come along and enjoy the music!!

We're Open!!

     Just a quick reminder that the Croí na Gaillimhe Resource Centre re-opened this morning at 9.00am!!  The shedule for the week includes:           
                                                                                               
                                  Dinner Club on Wednesday at 1pm
                                      Social Club on Wednesday at 2 pm   

      Also, our monthly 'Tea Dance' will take place this Friday, 5th August from 2pm to 4pm. Hope you can join us!!
